How a Two Year Old Thinks Minimize

Amazingly, we went out to dinner last night for the first time with Elijah & Ben. Our stars must have been aligned because it went well. It was this little Lebanese restaurant in downtown Monterey that is run by one of the teachers from DLI. It was delicious. Ben ate a Fiber One bar as an appetizer while we waited for our food and then he really liked the pita & toasted pitas that we were served with hummus. He ate a little of the chicken we ordered for him, a lot of ketchup, and several of my veggies that came with my meal then he topped off with a big bowl of ice cream. Anyway, not the point.

He's basically potty-trained during his awake hours, but lately he's been waiting too long to go and then he only tells us when he's got a little wet spot on his undies. And it's a little harder away from home anyway so I was just checking with him.

Jamey: "Ben, do you need to go potty?"

Ben: "No." (I don't even know why I ask because No is his answer to EVERYTHING. He says no and then stops and actually processes the question and will give you the real answer. I guess it's the two-year old version of screening your phone calls, he's screening his answers.)

Jamey: "Are you sure? Do you have any pee for the potty? Daddy can take you potty." (I have Elijah slung up over one shoulder, snoozing.)

Ben: "The potty is at home, mommy."

Of course it is! Silly, mom.
